Dental disease is the single most overlooked area in veterinary practice. It is estimated that 50% of canine and feline patients over 5 years of age have at least one painful dental problem. In addition, periodontal disease has been linked to cardiac, liver and kidney issues. Because of their nature, pets rarely show symptoms of dental disease – even when they are in pain! They will often continue to eat and act normally. Some subtle signs of periodontal disease you can watch for include: halitosis (bad breath), red gums, plaque build up on the teeth, your pet chewing more on one side of the mouth or preferring to eat soft foods. We can help identify dental problems, address issues (including extracting teeth when necessary) and maintain a healthy mouth for your pet.
